Terms of Service
These terms ("Terms") govern your use of the RefRight web application, REST API, and Microsoft Word add-in (the "Service"), operated by Svela AI Software Labs Pvt Ltd ("Svela", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
RefRight parses and reformats bibliographic references into citation styles defined by us or by you. We make best-effort attempts to verify DOIs, expand journal abbreviations, detect duplicates, and check for retractions, but the Service is informational and does not replace your own editorial judgment before submission.
2. Your account
- You must be 16 or older to create an account.
- You are responsible for keeping your password and API keys secure. Do not share them.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- One person, one account. Sharing accounts is not permitted on individual plans.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to process content you do not have legal rights to.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or circumvent rate limits.
- Use the Service to transmit malware, illegal content, or content that violates intellectual property rights.
- Resell or sublicense access to the API without a written agreement.
- Use the Service in a way that disrupts other users (e.g. denial-of-service patterns).
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. For severe abuse, we may report to law enforcement.
4. Subscriptions, credits, and payments
- Free tier (Lite) — usage caps as described on our Pricing page. We may adjust caps for new signups, but existing Lite users keep their original limits.
- Pro and Teams — subscription billed monthly or yearly via Razorpay or Dodo Payments. You authorise recurring charges until you cancel.
- Prepaid credits — non-expiring credits for API usage. 1 credit = ₹0.10 (10 paise). Purchase via the dashboard. Minimum top-up ₹50.
- Cancellation — cancel any time from your dashboard. You retain Pro/Teams access until the end of the billing period, then revert to Lite. Prepaid credits remain usable.
- Refunds — Pro and Teams subscriptions include a 7-day money-back guarantee from the date of first purchase. Email support@svela.ai. Prepaid credits are non-refundable but never expire.
- Taxes — prices include applicable GST for Indian customers. International customers: prices are exclusive of local VAT/sales tax, which is collected and remitted by our merchant of record.
5. Your content and our rights
You retain all rights to references, manuscripts, and other content you submit to the Service. You grant Svela a limited, non-exclusive licence to process, store, and display this content only as necessary to provide the Service to you. We never claim ownership of your content, use it to train models, or share it with anyone outside your account.
6. Intellectual property
The RefRight name, logo, design system, source code, and built-in journal profiles are the property of Svela AI Software Labs Pvt Ltd and protected by Indian and international copyright and trademark law. You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service in accordance with your subscription. You do not receive any other rights to our intellectual property.
7. Service availability
We aim for 99.5% uptime but make no guarantees. The Service is provided "as is" and may be occasionally unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, or factors outside our control (CrossRef outages, cloud provider issues, etc.). Pro and Teams customers will receive credit reimbursement for prolonged outages, calculated as a pro-rata refund of subscription fees for the affected period.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law:
- Svela's total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim.
- Svela is not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages, including loss of data, profits, or business opportunity.
- You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of formatted references before submission to a journal. RefRight's output is a best-effort starting point, not a final authority on style.
9. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it from your dashboard. We may terminate or suspend your account if you violate these Terms, fail to pay, or for legal or regulatory reasons. On termination, your data is deleted within 30 days as described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email to registered users at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes will be resolved in the competent courts of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remains in effect.
